Playhouse Behind a Funeral Home?

I never thought my playhouse research would lead me to a funeral home...odd. This charming playhouse is located behind the Littleton & Rue Funeral Home in Springfield , Ohio. While its location is a little creepy, the house itself is stunning. It was built in the early 1900's by the Rodgers family for their two daughters, Alice and Lucinda. Lucky girls! The two story, three room playhouse was renovated by Littleton & Rue and still attracts visitors of all ages. I understand that this is a historical playhouse, but was sad to see the sign that read, "Please do not leave children unattended and do not allow them to disturb furnishings." A playhouse where play is no longer allowed has no life. Maybe the location is fitting.

  1. My initial thought was "oh-that is charming! They have a playhouse where the children can play quietly while adults pay their respects."

    Then I saw the sign.

  2. I completely understand the need to preserve the playhouse, but the sign did make me a little sad.

  3. I know this a really old post, but I just came across it. Growing up, I went to many funerals here, and we were always aloud to play in the playhouse.
