Playhouse Style: Storybook

Storybookers does a great job defining the Storybook style and has several pictures to look at. The curved or swooping roof line is one of the most dominant characteristics, and is typically covered with wooden or slate shingles. Occasionally a thatched roofing material is used, but may be problematic in some climates. Doors on these tiny playhouses are very expressive having rounded tops, detailed woodwork, and heavy iron hardware. Dutch doors are also found on Storybook playhouses. Walls are constructed of materials such as stone, brick, or stucco giving the structures a solid permanent feel. These tiny, whimsical houses fit seamlessly into their surroundings as if they have been there forever.
